be used to / used to

 be used to + Ving / 名詞：習慣於...

這個用法中的 to 是介係詞，因此後面必須加上名詞或是動名詞喔！那如果要表示原本不習慣，後來習慣了的這種「改變的過程」，可以把 be 改成 get 或是 become。

例 1：I’m used to drinking a glass of warm water after I wake up.（我習慣在起床之後喝一杯溫水。）

例 2：Harry is getting used to his new work environment, so we don’t need to worry about him.（Harry 漸漸適應了他的新工作環境，所以我們不用為他擔心。）

be used to + V：被用來...

這是被動用法（be 動詞 + 過去分詞 used），因此後面可以加上「原形動詞」，表示某物被用來做什麼事。

例 3：Coffee grounds can be used to get rid of the bad smell in the refrigerator.（咖啡渣可以用來去除冰箱裡的臭味。）

used to + V：過去經常...

這種用法當中 use 都用過去式 used，而且後面的 to 是不定詞，所以後面直接接上原形動詞，表示「過去經常做某事」。

例 4：My father used to carry me back to my room when I fell asleep on the sofa.（當我在沙發上睡著的時候，我父親以前常常會把我背到我的房間。）

be composed of / consist of

這邊首先要了解 compose 表示「組成、構成」，而 consist 表示「由...組成、構成」。因此 compose 的用法是「小分子 compose 大分子」，而 consist 則是「大分子 consist of 小分子」。

 consist of：由...組成

例 1：America consists of many different ethnicities.（美國由許多不同的種族所組成。）

 be composed of：由...組成

這是把上述「小分子 compose 大分子」的用法轉為被動，因此「大分子」與「小分子」的位子也會調換喔，變成「大分子 be composed of 小分子」。

例 2：Water is composed of hydrogen and oxygen.（水由氫與氧組成。）

think...to be / think of...as

表示「將 A 視為 B」有幾種寫法，有些動詞需要搭配 as，有些則接 to be。

 think / consider A to be B：將 A 視為 B

例 1：People think Martin Luther King Jr. to be one of the greatest people who made a huge difference in African American’s rights in the U.S.（人們將小馬丁．路德．金恩視為對美國非裔美洲人權有重大影響的偉人之一。）

 think of / view / regard A as B：將 A 視為 B

例 2：We think of our dad as the hero of our family.（我們將我們的爸爸視為我們家的英雄。）

because / because of

雖然都翻成「因為」，但 because 用來連接兩個子句，因此後面要接上結構完整的主詞與動詞。而 because of 是後面接上一個名詞的喔。

 ...because + 主詞 + 動詞：因為...

例 1：They cancelled the meeting because their manager couldn’t make it today.（他們取消了會議，因為他們的主管今天沒辦法趕回來。）

例 2：Lauren is still sad because of the breakup.（Lauren 還在為分手的事難過。）
