salty 的基本意思

首先，salty 的確從 salt 而來，那 salt 可以表示「鹽巴」，跟它相關的 salty 就表示「有鹹味的」、「很鹹的」，根據英英字典，salty 有這個意思：tasting of salt or containing a lot of salt（有鹽巴的味道，或是含有很多鹽），例如：

I think this dish is too salty for me. Maybe adding a little water to it would make it better.（我覺得這道菜對我來說太鹹了。可能加一點水會好一點。）

Sandy prefers salty snacks to sweet ones, so I guess she’ll like this.（比起甜食，Sandy 比較喜歡鹹味小點，所以我猜她會喜歡這個。）

salty 的俚語意思

那除了「有鹹味的」、「很鹹的」的意思，salty 在俚語中還可以表示「（行為表現）很酸民」、「憤世嫉俗的」，根據英英字典解釋，大家可以滑到有寫 informal 的那塊喔：feeling or showing resentment towards a person or situation（對某人或是情況感到氣憤或是展現出怨恨）。

也有另一處英英字典這樣註解：bitter or argumentative because of being upset（因為不開心而尖酸刻薄，或是好爭論的樣子），來看看可以怎麼用：

What’s wrong with Owen? He’s being so salty!（Owen 怎麼啦？他好負面、好酸喔！）

Sherry got salty after her childish classmates made fun of her.（在幼稚的同學們取笑 Sherry 之後，她被激怒到很煩。）

Why are you acting salty? You were not like this before.（你怎麼一副帶刺的樣子？你以前不是這樣的。）

所以當你看到 He's so salty. 這句用 salty 這個字，但整句跟食物一點關係都沒有，你就要依照上下文把這句理解為「他表現得很刻薄、很酸民、被惹惱的樣子」。

最後小補充一點，有一個字跟 salty 表達的意思很像：bitter，這個字除了表示「味苦的」，它也有表達「憤恨不平、憤世嫉俗」的意思，英英字典有這個解釋：feeling angry, jealous, and upset because you think you have been treated unfairly（因為覺得被不公平對待而感到生氣、忌妒跟不開心），例如：

People said the man living in room 702 is a bitter old man. You don’t want to mess with him.（大家說住在 702 號房的人是個憤世嫉俗的老人。你最好少惹他。）

Phil is still bitter about the fact that he was not chosen by the coach.（Phil 還是對教練沒有選他的這件事感到憤恨不平。）

Eathan used to be a bitter teenager, but he’s changed a lot.（Eathan 以前是個憤世嫉俗的青少年，但他已經改變了很多。）
